Context is KeyWhen looking at any kind of human creation, the context in which we engage with the creation and the context in which the creation was made determine how we understand its artistic merit.
When children draw, their work wouldn't qualify as a masterpiece, particularly when compared with the world's greatest adult artists. However, given the fact that the artist is a child, we tend to see the work as age appropriate and as masterful in its own way. When creating art as adults, we are held to higher standards; however, our own artistic merit is determined by our personality, our vision, and our understanding of the world. We are all different in these respects, and we can all create equally beautiful, yet widely different art. |
